Franklin & Marshall was founded in 1999 on the intuition of 2 young entrepreneurs, Giuseppe Albarelli and Andrea Pansiero, who since then have transformed their ambition, skills and ideals into a successful brand that is well known for its vintage-influenced design.
For this brand the word 'vintage' (from the French phrase l'age du vin meaning the vintage of a wine) refers to the continued search for clothing and personalisation in order to express one's identity. The symbol of this unique and ever-innovative spirit is as old 1970s sweatshirt from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania that Gieseppe and Andrea found in a secondhand market in London.
For this duo, who were always fans of North American culture, that sweatshirt was the inspiration for what would become a hugely successful idea; to bring American college style to Italy. From that one single garment, comfortable and full of history, the idea was born to develop a simple and esaily recognisable youth clothing line.
Diesel, the high fashion casual brand, was created in 1978. This was a time when Renzo Rosso was weaving other successful brands like Katherine Hamnett, Replay, and Goldie through his Genious Group of Companies until he finally took control of Diesel in the year 1985. In Diesel, he found a name that was short, easy-to-remember.
